Exciting running on the cards at Totalsports Women’s Race JHB

On Thursday, August 9, 2018 (National Women’s Day) thousands of runners and walkers dressed in pink will take part in the much anticipated Totalsports Women’s Race.

Jozi will be a hub of excitement on Thursday, August 9, 2018 (National Women’s Day) when thousands of runners and walkers dressed in pink toe the line at the much anticipated Totalsports Women’s Race where they’ll #RunUnited in support of PinkDrive.

“The Johannesburg route is fairly fast and flat with a really nice challenge between the 5km – 7km mark,” says Agne du Plessis, Stillwater Sports:  General Manager Road Running and Athletics.  “Iconic landmarks to look out for on route will include: the Oriental Plaza, the Constitutional Court of South Africa, the Johannesburg Theatre and the Nelson Mandela Bridge to mention just a few. Both the 5km and 10km races will start and finish at the same place. Runners and walkers can look forward to a memorable Women’s Day celebration.”

The event will take place at Mary Fitzgerald Square, Newtown.

The entry fee for licensed runners for the 10km run is R120. The entry fee for the 5km run is R80. The entry fee for unlicensed runners for the 10km is R140 (temporary license included).

Each entrant will receive a fitted Event T-shirt, a Totalsports head scarf and a finisher’s bracelet.

The following roads will be affected by road closures on event day (between 5am and 1pm)

Henry Nxumalo, Jeppe, Main Road, Noria Mabasa, Dolly Rathebe, Church, Queen, Clifton, Bartlett, Krause, 8th Street, Enoch Sontonga, Jorissen, Bertha, Ameshoff and Melle.

Prize Purse

The 2018 Totalsports Women’s Race Johannesburg (10km race) boasts a R41 200 prize purse.  Prize money has been allocated to the top eight finishers in the Open Category with the winner taking home a whopping R10 000. The top eight runners in the Junior Category will also be awarded for their efforts, while the top three finishers in the age categories 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+ will also not go home empty-handed.

 Charity Support

The Totalsports Women’s Race supports PinkDrive, a Non-Profit Company (NPC) that is committed to improving breast cancer awareness, education, and providing and offering free services to the medically uninsured across South Africa. PinkDrive will be present on event day offering FREE clinical breast examinations and educating on the importance of self- breast examinations

Live Entertainment

The action of the 2018 Totalsports Women’s Race Johannesburg will close off with a lively performance by South African rapper and poet, Sho Madjozi.
