Nomuzi’s road to success began when she was in high school. She entered and won Mr and Miss St Dunstans, the school that she attended from the age of three up to matric. “I think the reason why I won that competition was because I was just the loudest and craziest person at that school and it got people to vote for me,” she said. Part of the prize for winning Mr and Miss St Dunstans was two months worth of modeling classes at Rampage Modeling Agency in Benoni “It turned out that I really enjoyed modeling so I stuck with it.” Nomuzi went on to enter Mr and Miss Benoni three times and won the title in 2010. After matric she enrolled at Varsity college in Sandton and is currently in her third year of communication studies.
The 20 -year-old spent the first half of 2012 going to countless auditions for different television presenter positions and parts in advertisements and it paid off when she won the Mtv Base presenter search.
She admits that what has changed the most since she won the competition is how full her schedule has become. “I am really, really busy but my friends and family won’t let me change who I am. At the same time I am young but I am very aware of myself and the only person that I can really be is myself. This job has helped me understand the value of spending time with family and friends and to really appreciate the conversations that I have with them.”
With 8689 Twitter followers and counting Nomuzi is fast becoming one of social media’s “It” girls. When it comes to the world of social networks celebrities are often associated with cat fights that take place over the internet but Nomuzi insists, “That is just not me. I’m not brave enough to start a Twitter war. I have never been in a fight in my life,” she laughs.
One thing is for certain and that is Nomuzi’s star is on the infinite rise and she is one to watch. You can catch Nomuzi on MTV Base DSTV channel 322 and on Club 808 on eTV and follow her on Twitter @NoMoozlie.
